Jharkhand: Marandi seeks CM's response on sand ghats, tax collection

Ranchi, October 17 (UNI) Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi on Saturday sought Chief Minister Hemant Soren's response on the closure of sand ghats, suspension of holding tax collection and delays in road projects in the state.
In a post on social media platform X, Marandi questioned the government's accountability and sought time-bound action on the three issues.
Marandi claimed that 288 of the 302 auctioned sand ghats in the state remained closed despite the completion of the auction process. He alleged that pending statutory clearances, including environmental approvals and Gram Sabha permissions, had prevented the ghats from becoming operational.
He also sought details of the pending work at the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, particularly regarding its member secretary Rajiv Lochan Bakshi, and asked the state government to make the status of approvals public.
On holding tax collection, Marandi said the process had been suspended since August 21 after the agreement with the previous agency ended. He questioned why an alternative arrangement had not been put in place and demanded disclosure of the revenue loss during the suspension and the timeline for restoring collection.
Marandi also raised concerns over road projects in Ranchi worth Rs 1,410 crore, claiming that their implementation remained stalled and residents continued to face difficulties.
He called for the publication of the status of the sand ghats, pending clearances, holding tax collection and road projects. His demands included a timeline for completing statutory approvals, regular supply of sand at reasonable rates, restoration of tax collection and monthly progress reports on the projects.
The Leader of Opposition also called for a review of pending cases and action against officials and contractors found responsible for delays.
Marandi said the BJP would continue to raise issues concerning public interest and asked the state government to respond to the concerns.
