Bihar to expand EV charging network

Patna, Oct 17 (UNI) The Bihar government is developing an extensive electric vehicle (EV) charging network to make the use of electric vehicles more convenient across the state.
The network will include fast-charging stations for electric buses as well as private two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers.
According to the Transport Department, construction of a charging station in Purnia district has been completed, while work is underway in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Gaya.
Each bus depot is being equipped with eight charging points to cater to a capacity of 50 buses. The facilities will enable a bus to be charged in approximately one to one-and-a-half hours.
Charging stations are already operational at bus depots in Phulwarisharif in Patna, Rajgir and Muzaffarpur.
For private vehicles, fast DC charging stations are being installed at 10 major government premises in Patna. These include the Main Secretariat, Bihar Legislative Assembly, Collectorate, Visvesvaraya Bhawan, Vikas Bhawan, Irrigation Bhawan, the Kankarbagh Multimodal Hub, Beur Mor and Harding Road.
The stations are being developed under a memorandum of understanding between the Transport Department and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). They will be capable of charging a car in 45 to 60 minutes and will also provide charging facilities for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
Although located on government premises, the charging stations will be open to the general public.
Under the Bihar EV Policy 2026, a subsidy of 25 per cent of the cost of machinery and equipment, up to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh, is being provided for setting up public charging stations.
These stations can be established at government buildings, commercial complexes, hotels, hospitals, shopping malls, multiplexes, residential apartments and housing societies with more than five families, petrol pumps, highway-side dhabas and restaurants, bus stands and parking areas.
