Jharkhand: Radiology advances discussed at RIMS conclave

Ranchi, Oct 4 (UNI) Experts at the Jharkhand Musculo-Skeletal Imaging Conclave 2026 held at RIMS today discussed advances in radiology and imaging and their role in diagnosis and pain management.
The conference was organised jointly by RIMS and the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, with radiologists from Jharkhand, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh participating in the event.
RIMS Dean (Research) Dr P K Bhattacharya said radiology and imaging science could play an important role in pain management and cautioned against excessive reliance on painkillers, which he said could adversely affect the liver and kidneys.
Bhattacharya said around 90 per cent of people experience some form of bodily pain at some point and that advances in imaging could help in better diagnosis and treatment.
He also highlighted the importance of ultrasound reports in clinical decision-making and said a detailed report by a radiologist could help doctors determine an appropriate line of treatment.
RIMS Director Dr (Prof) D K Sinha said radiology had progressed considerably from conventional X-rays to ultrasound, CT scans, MRI and newer technologies involving robotics and artificial intelligence.
He emphasised the need for regular conferences and continuing medical education programmes to help medical students and young doctors keep pace with developments in radiology and imaging.
Former head of the RIMS Department of Radiology and Imaging Science Dr Chandramohan said advances in medical science had significantly expanded the scope of diagnostic technologies.
The current head of the department, Dr Suresh Toppo, said the conference would benefit young doctors and medical students pursuing higher studies and careers in radiology and imaging science.
Experts from PGIMER, Bengaluru's Sakra World Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, and AIIMS Patna also delivered lectures on various aspects of radiology and imaging science.
