Jharkhand: Youth shot in Jamshedpur hours after DGP review

Jamshedpur, Oct 2 (UNI) A youth was injured in firing in Baradwari under Sitaramdera police station area here, hours after Jharkhand DGP Tadasha Mishra reviewed crime cases in the city.
Police said the injured youth, identified as Abid Hussain, was admitted to MGM Hospital for treatment. The police are investigating the incident and searching for those involved in the firing.
According to police, Hussain was sitting with friends outside his house when an argument took place. A youth allegedly arrived on a scooter after the dispute and opened fire.
Police said four rounds were fired, with Hussain sustaining a bullet injury to his left hand. Empty cartridges were recovered from the spot and police have started questioning people to identify those involved.
Sitaramdera police station in-charge Anand Mishra said the investigation was underway and further action would be taken on the basis of information provided by the injured person.
The incident took place after DGP Mishra held a review meeting with police officials in Jamshedpur on Thursday over rising crime and directed them to ensure prompt action against offenders.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi questioned the law and order situation in the state following the firing incident.
In a post on X, Marandi said the firing occurred soon after the DGP's review meeting and questioned whether people could feel secure if such incidents continued.
He alleged that criminals appeared to be undeterred despite police meetings and assurances, and urged the government to ensure effective action and a secure environment for citizens.
