Jobs ready for soldiers returning home: Haryana CM

Chandigarh, Oct 25 (UNI) In a landmark move to rehabilitate soldiers transitioning to civilian life, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today announced that the first batch of Agniveers, having completed their military service, will receive state government jobs and joining letters instantly upon their return to Haryana in November, with officials directed to ensure zero bureaucratic delay.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials in administration, Saini made it clear that the state would not keep these former defence personnel waiting. "These young men and women have finished their duty on the border. The moment they land back in Haryana, they must have their appointment letters in hand. There will be no procedural delay," he instructed, confirming that all preparatory work has been completed.
The announcement directly addresses the uncertainty surrounding post-service careers under the Agniveer programme, under which recruits serve a four-year term in the armed forces. While the scheme has triggered nationwide debate about employment security after military service, Haryana has moved decisively to guarantee that its returning soldiers are absorbed into government service the moment they complete their tenure.
"The youth who devoted their prime years to protecting the nation have earned more than our gratitude; they have earned a secure future," Saini said. "Providing them employment the day they return is not merely a policy decision, it is our moral duty."
The Chief Minister's directive places the state's administrative machinery on high alert for November, when the first cohort of Agniveers is scheduled to complete its engagement and return to civilian life. By front-loading the entire appointment process, the government aims to ensure that their shift from military boots to civilian roles is seamless, dignified, and immediate.
Officials have been instructed to keep sanctioned posts vacant and process all documentation in advance so that the returning Agniveers do not have to navigate departmental red tape. The move signals that Haryana intends to back its promises with administrative execution rather than vague assurances.
For Agniveers from Haryana, who constitute a significant share of the state's military representation, the assurance resolves lingering anxieties about career stability after their short-term defence engagement ends. Rather than being left to compete in an uncertain job market, they will step directly from service into state employment.
Political observers note that the decision places Haryana in the vanguard of states proactively rehabilitating Agniveers, converting a potentially contentious national issue into a demonstration of governance efficiency and soldier welfare.
As the November return date approaches, the test for the state's machinery will be to deliver on Saini's promise of instant joining letters, a move that could set the benchmark for how India treats its short-service soldiers once they hang up their uniforms. UNI KK/NB SS
