K Reddy pays tributes to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on Balidan Diwas; highlights role in repealing article 370

Hyderabad, June 23 (UNI) Union Minister and BJP Telangana President G Kishan Reddy on Monday paid rich tributes to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary, observed as Balidan Diwas, at the BJP state office in Nampally and later in Krishnanagar, Jubilee Hills constituency.
Speaking to the media, Kishan Reddy recalled Mukherjee's foundational role in opposing Article 370 and protecting the unity of the nation. “In 1951, Dr Mukherjee resigned from Nehru’s cabinet and founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
He launched the first movement against Article 370, questioning how Jammu and Kashmir could have a separate Prime Minister, flag, and Constitution,” he said.
He noted that Dr Mukherjee entered Jammu and Kashmir without a permit to challenge its special status and was arrested. “He died under suspicious circumstances. His sacrifice was for national integration, and that vision was fulfilled under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 with the abrogation of Article 370,” Reddy said.
The Minister criticised past Congress governments for vote bank politics and ignoring national unity. “Under Article 370, 42,000 soldiers and civilians lost their lives in J&K. The Congress governments then remained indifferent and supported divisive politics,” he added.
Kishan Reddy also recounted how BJP stalwarts like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi carried forward Mukherjee’s legacy.
“Narendra Modi, as convener of the Ekta Yatra, hoisted the tricolor at Lal Chowk. Today, thanks to his leadership, equal rights are ensured for Dalits and women in J&K,” he said.
He stated that the BJP, under Modi’s leadership, continues to walk the path shown by Dr. Mukherjee. “BJP stands not just for a party, but for national integrity. We salute the courage and patriotism of Dr. Mukherjee,” he said.
