Kakinada: NTR Beach cleared of over 500 kg waste on International Coastal Cleanup Day

Kakinada, Sep 19 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard's Kakinada unit, in coordination with the district administration and industrial units, removed over 500 kg of plastic and solid waste from NTR Beach here on Saturday as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day.
District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav, MLC Karri Padmasri and former Kakinada Rural MLA Pilli Anantha Lakshmi participated in the coastal cleanup drive.
Officials, students from local schools and colleges, representatives of industrial units and Coast Guard personnel took part in the campaign and cleared accumulated plastic and other garbage from the beach.
Representatives of KSPL, Vedanta, Reliance, ONGC, Coromandel International and other organisations participated in the drive.
As the Indian Coast Guard completed 50 years of service, the District Collector and SP presented appreciation certificates to Coast Guard personnel on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Collector Harendhira Prasad said environmental protection was the responsibility of everyone and called for coastal cleanliness to be treated as a continuous effort rather than being restricted to a single day.
He urged students and youth to actively participate in social service and environmental protection activities.
District Tourism Development Officer Lakshman Rao, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Satyanarayana, Panchayat Officer Ravikumar, Kakinada Rural MPDO Sathish, KAUDA officials, representatives of industrial units, retired Coast Guard personnel and students participated in the programme.
