Kangra Valley Railway needs urgent revival and modernisation, say stakeholders

Dharamshala, June 12 (UNI) Growing concerns have been raised over the condition of the historic Kangra Valley Railway, with stakeholders and local residents calling upon the central government and the Ministry of Railways to initiate concrete measures for its revival and modernisation.
The narrow-gauge railway line, running from Pathankot to Jogindernagar, is regarded as a vital transport link, a symbol of Himachal Pradesh’s heritage, and a major attraction for tourists. Besides serving local commuters, the railway has historically contributed to the region’s economic and social development.
Local residents have suggested that if the Jammu Railway Division is unable to ensure effective operation and maintenance of the line, Northern Railway should consider bringing the route under the Ambala Division, which successfully manages the Kalka-Shimla heritage railway, or alternatively under the Firozpur Division, which had earlier overseen its operations.
