Mysuru, May 24 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his son, MLC Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, were seen wearing surgical masks during the inauguration of an Indira Canteen in Hinkal here on Saturday, amid growing concerns over a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in parts of the country.
Isolated spikes in COVID-19 cases in districts such as Belagavi, along with reports of a broader uptick across several parts of the country, have prompted health experts and authorities to advise renewed caution.
Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has urged citizens to avoid crowded places. Similar advisories have also been issued by the governments of Delhi, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.
With the national daily case count recently surpassing the 250-mark, medical professionals have called for vigilance without panic.
The Chief Minister, who is 76 years old, is considered part of the vulnerable population bracket. His public adherence to preventive protocol is likely to set an example for citizens at a time when pandemic fatigue has led to laxity in precautionary behaviour.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely, with an emphasis on testing and tracking in affected areas.
