Karnataka orders special prayers to mark Op Sindoor success

Bengaluru, May 8 (UNI) The Karnataka government has directed all temples under the Muzrai Department to conduct special prayers to commemorate the success of Operation Sindoor, carried out by the Indian armed forces in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack.

State Transport and Muzrai Minister B Ramalinga Reddy, addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, said that the circular has been issued by the Commissioner of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department, mandating temples to organise special prayers praying for the strength and well-being of the Indian Army.

"The Indian armed forces have successfully executed strikes on terrorist camps under Operation Sindoor. The people of Karnataka stand with our soldiers, and we pray for their continued strength," the minister said, adding that the directive must be implemented strictly and without exception.

The circular states that the move comes as a tribute to the Indian Army’s action following the deadly terror strike in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of several civilians, including businessman Manjunath Rao from Shivamogga.

"We have always taken pride in the Indian Army. Similar successful military operations were carried out under the leadership of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. Our forces have defended the country during wars with China and others. The Pulwama attack in 2019 should also have seen such a strong response," Reddy added.

Special prayers have been scheduled at the historic Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple from 8.30 am to 9.00 am, and at the Banashankari Temple from 10.30 am to 11.00 am on Thursday.

Sumathi, mother of slain Shivamogga businessman Manjunath Rao, welcomed the move and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Those who disturb peace must be dealt with firmly. My son is gone, but I don’t want any other mother to suffer the same loss. This strike was timely and appropriate,” she said.
