Kashi Tamil Sangam 5.0 to be held from Nov 28 to Dec 12, with theme "Thirukkural Payilvom"

Varanasi, Nov 3 (UNI) The fifth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangam will be held from November 28 to December 12, with the aim of strengthening the centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties between Kashi and Tamil Nadu.

This time, the theme of the event is "Thirukkural Payilvom" (Practice Thirukkural).

A high-level meeting was held at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Tuesday to review the preparations for the event.
The meeting was attended by Dipti Goud Mukherjee, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of India, BHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Higher Education), Amit Kumar Ghosh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, Ankita Mishra Bundela, and Chairman of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Chamu Krishna Shastri, along with officials from the Divisional Commissioner, District Administration, Police Administration, and various departments.
The meeting reviewed preparations, departmental coordination, and necessary arrangements for the event.
The fifth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam will focus on the timeless work of the saint poet Thiruvalluvar, "Thirukkural." The 1,330 verses of this work contain messages related to religion, economics, love, morality, ethics, and values. Given its universal relevance, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil has translated it into all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
This edition will place special emphasis on disseminating the messages of the Thirukkural to youth and educational institutions. Students from 1,000 participating institutions selected through nodal institutions in various states and union territories will study the text. Each institution will evaluate interested students and select one student based on merit.
Selected students will participate in two academic lectures in their own language and a month-long research and educational activity. They will also be required to prepare a four- to five-page article or research note under the guidance of a faculty supervisor. Additionally, each student will spread the message of Thirukkural by giving a one-hour presentation at their institution.
The web portal and registration process for Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0 was launched on October 22, 2026, by union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Ministry of Education plays a key role in the implementation of the event.
The Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai, has been entrusted with the responsibility of portal operation, registration, selection process, multilingual educational programs, digital archive, app, films, and publications.
IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University will be the nodal and coordinating institutions for the Tamil Nadu and Kashi sides, respectively. Indian Railways, Airports Authority of India, National Highways Authority of India, Ministry of Culture, and the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will also collaborate in the event.
Launched in the spirit of "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat," Kashi Tamil Sangamam is a platform to connect the new generation with the historical, cultural, linguistic, spiritual, and educational connections between Kashi, the ancient city on the banks of the Ganges, and the Tamil civilization that flourished on the banks of the Vaigai and Kaveri rivers.
