Kerala CM alleges CPM leadership knew of attack on Minister Janeesh

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 1 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Thursday alleged that the attack on the vehicle of Sports Minister and Youth Congress state president O J Janeesh in Kannur was carried out with the knowledge of the CPM leadership and said those responsible would be brought to justice.
Condemning the attack, Satheesan said it was unacceptable that DYFI and CPM activists had targeted the Minister. He alleged that the conspiracy behind the attack was clear and said those who directly attacked Janeesh as well as CPM-DYFI leaders who allegedly planned the incident would be brought before the law.
The Chief Minister said the Minister's vehicle had been targeted several times. Janeesh's vehicle was stopped at Taliparamba while he was travelling to Kasaragod after attending programmes in Kannur, and protesters allegedly attacked it with stones and their hands. The vehicle's flag stand and rain guard were damaged. Similar protests were reported at Payyannur, while protests were also reported in Kasaragod district. Seven DYFI activists were taken into police custody in connection with the Taliparamba incident, according to reports.
Satheesan described the incidents at Payyannur and Taliparamba as a continuation of the attack on former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and alleged that the CPM was attempting to create unrest to overcome the crisis it was facing following its defeat in the Assembly election.
He accused the CPM of continuing to operate like a "criminal mafia" and said that if the party was attempting to organise violent protests by mobilising criminals and "quotation" gangs, the government had a responsibility to put an end to it.
Satheesan questioned whether the CPM's objection was to Janeesh leading the Youth Congress protest against the Election Commission and the BJP government. He said the CPM should not assume that it could continue the "goondaism" witnessed in Kerala over the past 10 years.
Meanwhile, Janeesh alleged that the attacks on his vehicle were part of a planned attempt and said the vehicle had been targeted at several locations. He maintained that peaceful democratic protests would not be obstructed, but attempts to attack a moving vehicle could not be treated as a normal form of protest.
