Kerala fails to curb drug trafficking, promotes foreign Zumba against drugs: Pro-RSS

Thiruvananthapuram, June 30 (UNI) Kerala Government, which has miserably failed to dismantle the drug smuggling networks bringing narcotics into the State, is promoting foreign culture by introducing 'Zumba' dance in schools under the guise of an anti-drug campaign, according to the pro-RSS Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, here today.
“Forcing school students to practice Zumba, a foreign commodity, under the guise of an anti-drug campaign is a malicious move aimed at denying opportunities to Kerala’s traditional physical education instructors and widely accepted yoga trainers,” Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram Director R Sanjayan said in a statement.
“Instead of dismantling the drug smuggling networks that supply narcotics to Kerala, the Left Government continues to stage public spectacles by arresting only the victims of drug abuse,” he pointed out.
“It is in this context that the government's hypocrisy under the banner of Zumba becomes evident. In reality, Zumba represents a form of foreign cultural invasion and encroachment upon the cultural identity and heritage of this land,” he stated.
“Kerala has a glorious tradition in arts and sports. However, the government makes no effort to nurture or preserve it. The promotion of foreign products like Zumba is driven by the vested interests of certain lobbies,” he added.
The underlying objective of importing Zumba, he alleged, is to deny opportunities to Kerala’s traditional physical education instructors and certified yoga trainers.
“It is also worth noting that physical education teachers selected through the Public Service Commission (PSC) are not being appointed on time. This paves the way for backdoor appointments of Zumba trainers,” he further alleged.
“This land does not lack talented artists, trainers, or choreographers. If there is a need for creative innovations, their services can certainly be utilised. Unfortunately, they receive no support from the government,” he said.
Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram has appealed to the public, especially parents and teachers’ organisations, to recognise and resist such covert attempts that undermine the cultural identity of the land, he added.
