Kozhikode, May 11 (UNI) In a tragic road accident, four people, including three women, were killed and eight others sustained injuries in collision of a speeding traveller van and a car at Moorad NH 66 near Vadakara, of the district on Sunday.
All four deceased were occupants of the car.
According to police, the deceased were identified as Roja of New Mahe, Jayavalli of Mahe, Renji of Azhiyoor and Shighin Lal of Mahe.
Another passenger in the car, Sathyan of Chorode was seriously injured and has been admitted at the Vadakara Co-operative hospital.
The accident occurred at around 3.15 pm, when the car, after refuelling at a nearby petrol pump, was
reentering the NH 66, when it was struck head-on by a Karnataka registered traveller van approaching from the opposite direction.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was totally damaged.
Of nine persons travelling in the van, seven of them were injured and admitted to two different hospitals at Vadakara.
Police and Fire force personnel rushed to the spot and rescued all the injured passengers by cutting the doors of the car and shifted to the Varode Cooperative hospital, but doctors declared four of them dead.
The passengers of car were proceeding to Mahe after attending a marriage function and the speeding Traveller van carrying the tourists from Telangana, bound to Vadakara, collided with the car.
