Khamenei warns of wider regional response if US resumes attacks on Iran

Tehran, Nov 4 (UNI) Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Wednesday warned that any renewed US military attack on Iran would trigger a much wider regional response, asserting that those expecting a change in Washington's policy following political developments in the United States were "seriously mistaken".
In a written message marking Iran's National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance, observed on November 4 to commemorate the 1979 seizure of the US Embassy in Tehran, Khamenei said neither changes in American political leadership nor concessions by Tehran would persuade Washington to abandon its hostility towards Iran.
"Those who still harbour even the slightest hope for a change in behaviour through political or partisan shifts in the system of domination, or imagine that making concessions to America can dissuade it from hostility towards the Iranian nation, are seriously mistaken," he said.
His remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump's Republican Party suffered losses in the midterm elections, with Democrats gaining control of Congress.
Khamenei said Washington's ultimate objective is the "unconditional surrender of the Iranian nation", warning that any willingness to compromise would encourage further American demands and military aggression.
"Even the slightest submissive inclination towards the domineering enemy will squander the great capital acquired through the blood of martyrs and the sacrifices of all sections of the nation, and will embolden the arrogant enemy to make further excessive demands and commit further acts of aggression and war," he said.
Referring to the conflict with the United States, Khamenei said Iran's control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and the destruction of US military bases in regional countries are responses to American aggression and formed part of a broader confrontation with US influence in the region.
He described these actions as an "initial jihad against global arrogance on a regional scale", warning that "in the event of a repetition of these aggressions, their dimensions will become much wider".
Khamenei said the developments in the Persian Gulf have exposed what he called "the falsity of the myth of America's invincibility" and demonstrated the vulnerability of governments relying on foreign powers for their security.
He also claimed that US military and international influence had suffered "an irreversible fall", adding that the developments across West Asia, alongside the activities of regional resistance movements, signalled the emergence of "a new world order".
"The only way to reach the point of absolute deterrence is to continue the strategy of 'Iran ever stronger' along the path of comprehensive progress," he said, stressing that national unity, solidarity and social cohesion were essential to strengthening the country.
The Iranian leader also accused Washington of pursuing Iran's disintegration, the collapse of its political system and the destruction of its civilisation.
Tracing the history of US-Iranian tensions, he referred to the 1953 coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh as the beginning of American interference in Iran, accusing Washington of subsequently supporting Saddam Hussein during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, imposing economic sanctions and backing efforts to destabilise the Islamic Republic.
He also cited the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani in a US drone strike in Baghdad in January 2020 and the killing of Iranian military commanders and scientists in subsequent confrontations.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Moghadamfar, an adviser to the commander-in-chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned that Tehran would target senior American military and political figures if Iranian leaders were attacked.
"If they target our commanders and leaders this time, they should expect their own commanders and leaders to be killed," Moghadamfar said.
"Our responses will no longer be reciprocal or proportional. We will go beyond the point of attack and set their assets ablaze, regardless of time or place," he added.
Speaking in Bandar Abbas, he also warned that Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, could face a wider Iranian response if they allowed their territories to be used for attacks against Iran.
Khamenei, meanwhile, called on Iranian authorities to prioritise public welfare, livelihoods and economic development, while urging young people, university students and schoolchildren to equip themselves with knowledge, skills and determination to contribute to the country's future.UNI AAB
