Khandu inaugurates new facilities at RK Mission Hospital, promises continued Govt assistance

Itanagar, Oct 4 (UNI) The Ramakrishna Mission's long-standing contribution to healthcare and education in Arunachal Pradesh received a fresh boost with the inauguration of a dedicated 33kV power substation and Phase-II of the Vivekananda Bhavan staff quarters at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Itanagar on Sunday.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the two facilities and assured continued State Government support for the Mission's healthcare and educational initiatives in the state.
The new staff quarters will accommodate around 18 staff members, while the dedicated power substation will cater exclusively to the hospital.
Khandu also participated in the presentation of tokens of appreciation to doctors, wards and other hospital staff for their contribution to healthcare services.
Recalling the Mission's association with Arunachal Pradesh, Khandu said it began with the establishment of a school at Aalo in 1966, followed by the Ramakrishna Mission at Narottam Nagar in Tirap district and the hospital at Itanagar in 1978-79.
He said generations of students from the Mission's institutions, particularly Aalo and Narottam Nagar, had gone on to serve in various positions in public life and government.
The Chief Minister said the government was encouraging the Mission to expand into higher education and that, following discussions with its leadership, in-principle approval had been accorded for two colleges, one each at Aalo and Narottam Nagar.
The government is exploring the use of existing infrastructure to start the institutions at the earliest, he said.
He also appreciated the Mission for establishing an educational institution at Lamdung in East Kameng, saying it would contribute to improving access to quality education in western Arunachal Pradesh.
On healthcare expansion, Khandu said the proposed 200-bed expansion of the RKM Hospital would further strengthen medical services in the state. He highlighted the expansion of medical education infrastructure, including the increase in MBBS intake at TRIHMS from 50 to 100 seats.
The state is also preparing to establish a second medical college at Namsai, while a third medical college in the West Kameng-Tawang region, with an intake capacity of around 150 students, is being planned under the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode.
Khandu further assured that the hospital's requirement for a dedicated water supply would be examined by the concerned department. He also said the government would pursue the replacement of ageing staff and doctors' quarters at the hospital, for which the Mission has submitted a DPR.
He said efforts would be made to approve the first phase of the proposed infrastructure replacement at the earliest.
Home Minister Mama Natung, MLAs Pani Taram and Jikke Tako, Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Rev Swami Suhitananda Ji Maharaj, Secretary of RKM Hospital Rev Swami Vedasaranandaji Maharaj, Secretary of RKM Narottamnagar Rev Swami Achyuteshanandaji Maharaj and others were present.
