Kishan Reddy calls for grand Bathukamma celebrations in Amberpet

Hyderabad, Oct 6 (UNI) union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday called upon women and residents of Amberpet to celebrate Bathukamma on a grand scale at 1700 hours on October 17, describing the festival as a symbol of women’s strength and unity across caste and religious lines.
Addressing a women’s conference in Amberpet, Kishan Reddy recalled the struggles of women such as Chakali Ailamma against the Nizam and Razakar rule and said Bathukamma remained a symbol of their courage and resilience.
He said women were excelling in every field, citing President Droupadi Murmu and union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as examples.
He also highlighted women’s participation in the armed forces, aviation, corporate sector and sports.
Kishan Reddy said the Central Government was supporting women’s self-help groups by facilitating bank loans of up to Rs 20 lakh and stressed the importance of providing quality education and opportunities to children.
Expressing concern over the growing use of marijuana and other drugs among youth, Kishan Reddy urged women to remain vigilant and monitor children to prevent drug abuse from becoming a larger social problem.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set a goal of making India drug-free by 2029 and announced that a padayatra would be organised in Hyderabad in November as part of the campaign.
He appealed to women across Telangana to participate in the programme.
