Kolhapur: Jail officer beaten and injured by six prisoners

Kolhapur, Sep 17 (UNI) In a shocking incident, six prisoners serving a jail sentence, abused and kicked a senior jail officer and beat him with a stone in district Kalamba jail in the city.
According to Juna Rajwada police, six prisoners, who were serving a sentence of imprisonment, entered the room of a senior officer Prakash Chavan (50), without any permission and abused him, beat him with a stone, injuring the officer.
The names of the prisoners against whom the case has been registered are Altaf Sharif, Bharat Raju Shetty, Vinayak Sambhaji Chougule, Ashutosh Santosh Vartale, Adam Mohammad Mujawar and Shahid Mansoor Syed.
According to information given by Juna Rajwada Police Inspector Kiran Londhe, Chavan was posted as a senior prison officer.
On September 14 (Monday), at 1:45 pm, some prisoners were rioting in the stairs of the barracks in Circle No. 1 and Barracks No. 3 and 4 of the prison.
At that time, Chavan went to the site, and shouted at them, ordering them not to break the prison discipline.
Out of anger, six prisoners entered Chavan's ward officer's room later that afternoon.
There they abused and beat Chavan and kicked him.
Prisoner Altaf Sharif tried to hit him on the head with a stone.
Chavan raised his left hand to dodge the stone, and the stone hit his left palm.
He was injured. He then told the senior superintendent about the incident.
After that, a case was registered against the inmates who attacked him.
