Konda Laxman Bapuji’s ideals inspire Telangana’s development: Ponnam Prabhakar

Hyderabad, Sep 27 (UNI) The 111th birth anniversary of Telangana movement leader Konda Laxman Bapuji was celebrated at Ravindra Bharati on Sunday under the aegis of the Telangana government and the leadership of Guduru Srinivas, Chairman of the Konda Laxman Bapuji Birth Anniversary Celebrations Committee and Telangana Padmashali Cooperative Corporation.
Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vivek Venkataswamy attended as chief guests, along with Government Advisor V Hanumantha Rao, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav and other public representatives and leaders.
Paying tributes to Bapuji, Ponnam described him as a visionary who dedicated his life to the Telangana statehood movement and placed the aspirations of the people above political positions.
He said Bapuji’s sacrifices, public service and fight against social inequalities and exploitative practices such as bonded labour had a special place in Telangana’s history.
Ponnam said Bapuji’s ideals and fighting spirit had inspired leaders during the Telangana movement and called upon the community to work for the development and welfare of handloom workers and weavers.
He urged weaker sections to remain united and said traditional occupations should evolve in accordance with changing times. He also called for greater political representation of the Padmashali community.
Referring to the Telangana government’s caste census, Ponnam said the State had passed legislation aimed at providing 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) based on the survey data.
He alleged that the Centre had halted the process and demanded that a comprehensive caste census covering BCs be conducted across the country.
