Kumaraswamy explores Janata Parivar reunification ahead of 2028 polls

Bengaluru, Oct 10 (UNI) JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy is reportedly working behind the scenes to bring former party leaders now associated with the Congress back into the Janata Parivar fold, as the JD(S)-BJP National Democratic Alliance (NDA) prepares for the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.
Some former JD(S) leaders, including legislators and ministers who joined the Congress, are reportedly considering returning to their former party amid discontent within the ruling party and uncertainty over the political landscape after the 2028 elections.
According to political inputs, some leaders have already held discussions with Kumaraswamy at undisclosed locations. However, the identities of those involved and the details of the alleged meetings remain unconfirmed.
A senior Congress leader who played a key role in building the JD(S) alongside former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda before moving to the Congress is also said to be among those contemplating a return, along with his supporters and political associates.
The reported outreach comes amid Kumaraswamy's efforts to consolidate the Janata Parivar and strengthen the JD(S) ahead of the next Assembly elections. Some former party members are said to be reassessing their political options amid questions over the Congress's prospects of retaining power beyond 2028.
Kumaraswamy has previously maintained that the JD(S) doors remain open to leaders who left the party, providing a possible opening for efforts to bring former members back into the organisation.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Vijayendra Yediyurappa has been making efforts to bring leaders together and address internal differences within his party. The parallel political manoeuvres come as the NDA partners seek to strengthen their organisational base ahead of the next Assembly polls.
The possible return of former JD(S) leaders could reshape political alignments within the Congress and the JD(S), although the identities of those involved, the status of the reported discussions and the possibility of a formal realignment remain unclear.
