Kumari Selja asks ex-Uttarakhand CM Rawat not to go ahead with his political activities in poll year

By Prithviraj Singh
Dehradun Oct 5 (UNI) In an unusual development in Uttarakhand, Congress party's Central leadership has snubbed former chief minister Harish Rawat asking him not to go on with his own programmes in the election year without following protocol of the organisation.
As Uttarakhand will face assembly elections in early 2027, AICC state in-charge Kumari Selja has dashed a letter to Rawat alleging he has made controversial statements that may hamper party's electoral prospects.

In the letter written by Ms Selja on October 1, she asked Rawat to be aware of party protocol in holding his rallies and campaigns.
She further alleged that no prior information was shared either with the state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal or her as Rawat held roadshows and other political programmes in the recent past after his return to the state.
Asking him for compliance with the party's protocol, AICC state in-charge hinted that Congress veteran must stop his political programmes.
In the letter, Ms Selja further said, "It has come to our notice that you are undertaking a Yatra in the State. This has neither been discussed with the undersigned nor with the PCC President. You have also, reportedly, made certain controversial statements recently. The State elections are to be held in the next few months and the Party must put up a united front. You will appreciate that any such parallel programme at this juncture will not be in the interest of the Party. You may therefore not go ahead with these programmes."
Ms Selja has also copied the letter to AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, who is considered a close associate of Sonia Gandhi.
It is worth mentioning that Rawat was on a brief break from political activities for health reasons till almost a fortnight ago. He returned to active politics after nearly three months of his health recovery in Delh. He held a massive roadshow in Haridwar, creating a flutter in BJP and his opposition camps in the party.
Following this rally, he held several other events and is currently on a tour of Kumaon region, with scheduled programmes in Almora and other locations.
Party insiders say that several Congress leaders were uncomfortable with Rawat's recent activities and wanted central leadership to put a stop to the same.
