Air quality ‘poor’ in parts of Haryana, UP; Delhi records ‘moderate’ AQI

Panchkula, Oct 5: Air quality was in the ‘poor’ category in several parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Monday, while Delhi recorded ‘moderate’ air quality, according to the latest National Capital Region air quality bulletin.
The bulletin, based on the average of the past 24 hours and issued at 4 p.m., showed Noida recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 268, the highest among the cities and towns listed. Muzaffarnagar recorded 251, Bulandshahr 244 and Ghaziabad 235, all in the ‘poor’ category.
In Haryana, Faridabad recorded an AQI of 215, Kurukshetra 204 and Manesar 201, placing all three in the ‘poor’ category. Gurugram recorded an AQI of 191, classified as ‘moderate’, with PM2.5 and PM10 listed as prominent pollutants. Bahadurgarh recorded in AQI of 184, Jind 183, Dharuhera 131, Bhiwani 124, Charkhi Dadri 116, Narnaul 113 and Rohtak 101, all in the ‘moderate’ category.
Karnal and Mandikhera in Nuh district recorded an AQI of 48 each, falling in the ‘good’ category. Palwal, at 76, and Sonipat, at 95, recorded ‘satisfactory’ air quality. Delhi recorded an AQI of 184, classified as ‘moderate’, with PM10 identified as the prominent pollutant. Elsewhere in the NCR, Baghpat recorded an AQI of 192, Meerut 186, Bhiwadi 184, Modinagar 182, Greater Noida 150, Khurja 137 and Khora 132, all in the ‘moderate’ category. Alwar at 77, Bharatpur at 79 and Ballabgarh at 95 remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category. According to the bulletin, ‘poor’ air quality can cause breathing discomfort to most people on prolonged exposure, while ‘moderate’ air may cause breathing discomfort to people with lung, asthma and heart diseases.
