Lalu slams RSS for its demand to drop 'secular', 'socialist' from constitution

Patna, June 27 (UNI) RJD chief Lalu Prasad today slammed the RSS for its demand to drop the words "secular" and "socialist" from the preamble of the Constitution, saying it was a reflection of the organisation's "hatred for the constitution and its architect Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar".
Prasad made the comment in a post on his social media account, saying the two words-- "secular" and "socialist" were the soul of the constitution but the RSS had demanded to drop both the words from its preface.
"Demand of RSS for dropping the words 'secular' and 'socialist' is like demanding for changing the entire constitution itself," the RJD leader said, and asked why the RSS had "so much hatred for the constitution and Baba Saheb Ambedkar. RSS is a casteist and communal organisation," he noted.
"RSS has no courage to contemplate on changing the constitution and its provision of reservation," Prasad warned. "How could RSS muster the courage for making such a demand," he wondered.
Notably, RSS General Secretary Hosabale Dattatreya has demanded for dropping the words "secular" and "socialist" from the preface of the constitution while speaking on June 25, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The words "secular" and "socialist" were added to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution during the Emergency period through the 42nd Amendment in 1976.
