Landslide derails locomotive: Several trains delayed in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 22 (UNI) A landslide near Parassala railway station in Kerala early Thursday derailed the locomotive of the Bilaspur–Tirunelveli Express after the train was stopped in the affected section, disrupting several passenger and long-distance train services.
The incident occurred at 0219 hours in the Neyyattinkara–Parassala section at kilometre 249, near Parassala railway station, when Train No. 22619 Bilaspur–Tirunelveli Express was halted following the landslide. All passengers and railway staff were safe, according to information provided by the Railways.
A relief locomotive was immediately arranged to move the affected train, while an Accident Relief Train (ART), along with personnel and materials required for restoration, was dispatched to the site. Restoration work was initiated to clear the section and resume normal train operations.
The disruption resulted in three trains being held at different locations en route. Train No. 06163 Tambaram–Thiruvananthapuram Central Special was held at Eraniel, Train No. 16729 Madurai–Punalur Express at North Panakudi and Train No. 16121 Tambaram–Thiruvananthapuram Central Amrit Bharat Express at Nanguneri.
Train No. 16650 Kanniyakumari–Mangaluru Central Parasuram Express, scheduled to leave Kanniyakumari at 0345 hours, was delayed. Train No. 56102 Nagercoil Junction–Punalur Passenger, scheduled to depart at 0625 hours, and Train No. 56306 Thiruvananthapuram North–Nagercoil Junction Passenger, scheduled at 0630 hours, were also affected.
Train No. 56705 Punalur–Kanniyakumari Passenger, scheduled to depart Thiruvananthapuram Central at 0925 hours, and Train No. 16122 Thiruvananthapuram Central–Tambaram Express, scheduled for departure at 1040 hours, were also expected to be delayed.
The disruption was also expected to affect two long-distance services — Train No. 16128 Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express and Train No. 16381 Pune–Kanniyakumari Express.
Railway authorities arranged emergency assistance and deployed personnel and equipment to undertake restoration work in the affected section. The resumption of normal train operations depended on the completion of the work.
