Legendary filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao passes awy

Chennai, Oct 4 (UNI) Legendary filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and composer Singeetam Srinivasa Rao passed away at a private hospital here late last night due to old age.
He was 94. He had been undergoing treatment at Kauvery Hospital due to age-related ailments and health complications, but died despite best of treatment.
Born in Gudur in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao was a multifaceted personality who had donned various roles as director, producer, composer and screenwriter after entering the film industry in 1972 directing and writing Telugu film "Neeti Nijayiti" . He directed several acclaimed Tamil films and formed a formidable association with renowned actor Kamal Haasan helming films like landmark 100th film "Raja Paarvai", "Pesum Padam" a movie without amy dialogure, "Apoorva Sagodharargal", "Michael Madana Kamarajan", "Magalir Mattum", "Kaathala Kaathala", and "Mumbai Express".
He had also acted in some films and directed films in six languages incuding in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
In his career spanning over seven decades, he had explored multiple genres, including science fiction, fantasy, comedy, social dramas, biographies, satire and musicals. His attitude of nevery shying away from experimentation while ensuring they set cash registers ringing, was the major reason behind the success of his films.
Even after crossing 90, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao remained passionate about cinema. He recently directed Sing Geetham, a pan-India film, continuing his association with filmmaking in his later years.
Kamal went to his residence and paid his last respects to the iconic director and paid rich tributes, recalling his golden days with him.
"Dying young need not be a tragedy. It can be glorious. Singeetham Srinivasa Rao is a great example. I have admired him since I knew him. Now I aspire to live like he did", he said, adding,"the youthful spirit of his is not something that easily rubs off on others; yet, I count myself among the friends and disciples who walked by his side, hoping to imbibe that very quality."
Singitam's death has sent shockwaves across the film industry and among his admirers. Film personalities, political leaders and fans have condoled the passing of one of Indian cinema’s most versatile and innovative filmmakers.
