LG inaugurates state-of-the art DDA sports complex in Rohini

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) In a major boost to modern sports infrastructure in North-West Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu on Thursday inaugurated the Delhi Development Authority's sports complex at Sector-33, Rohini.
Spread over approximately 8.11 hectares, with a built-up area of approximately 10,974 square meters, the sports complex has been developed to bring quality sporting infrastructure closer to the residents of Rohini, Outer Delhi and adjoining areas of North-West Delhi.
Sandhu also laid the foundation stone for an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station in the vicinity of the sports complex.
Sandhu said he had an engaging interaction with budding players on the occasion, while he encouraged them to pursue dreams with dedication, discipline and determination.
"Under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi, we are harnessing the energy of our youth through sports and building world-class sporting infrastructure in Delhi. Train hard. Dream big. Strive for excellence," Sandhu stated.
At the inaugural ceremony, Sandhu also announced the LG Cup for Hockey, to be held from October 9-18, aimed to encourage and motivate young athletes and promote greater participation in team sports.
The ceremony was attended Delhi Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, and Member of Parliament, Yogender Chandolia.
LG, later visited the DDA Aarambh Library in Rohini, where he interacted with students and had a positive and fruitful discussion with them on different topics.
The students voiced enthusiasm about the facility and said it is helping them in shaping their future at a nominal cost.
Since there is a huge demand from students for this library, LG announced that the Rohini Library would be augmented by utilising one upper floor and creating more than 40 additional seats for the benefit of students.
DDA currently operates five Aarambh Libraries at Old Rajinder Nagar, Adhchini Village, Dwarka, Rohini and Vikaspuri, providing students with safe reading facilities at a very affordable cost.
Meanwhile, the new Sports Complex has been developed with a comprehensive combination of outdoor and indoor sports facilities.
The outdoor facilities include six Lawn Tennis Synthetic Courts, two Basketball Synthetic Courts, one Netball Synthetic Court, one Volleyball Synthetic Court, a Skating Rink, Cricket Ground with natural turf, two Cricket Practice Nets with clay pitches, Football-cum-Hockey Ground with natural turf and a Jogging Track.
The indoor facilities include Table Tennis, Yoga Hall, Aerobics Hall, Gymnasium, Multipurpose Halls, Conference Hall, Reception and Waiting Hall and First Aid Room. The Complex also has a Pro-Shop and associated facilities, along with approximately 1.3 km of internal peripheral road and parking for 155 ECS.
