Lisa Kudrow to return in third season of ‘The Comeback’ with Michael King Patrick in 2026

Los Angeles, June 29 (UNI) ‘Friends’ actress Lisa Kudrow is set to return for a third season of her acclaimed comedy series ‘The Comeback’, with the HBO show created by her and ‘Sex and the City’ director Michael Patrick King being officially renewed for a third and final season in 2026.

According to Variety, in an official announcement by HBO, Kudrow and King said: “Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did.”

The satirical comedy series, heralded for its cringe-induced and goofy portrayal of the entertainment industry, is known for covering various themes in a comedically realistic fashion, giving insights into the themes of ageing in Hollywood, constant pursuit of fame and the resultant shallow lifestyle of celebrities, need for validation, the exploitative nature of the film and TV industry, and the many uncomfortable truths of show business.

Kudrow will return as Valerie alongside Dan Bucatinsky (who plays Val’s publicist), Laura Silverman (reality show producer, Jane) and Damian Young (Mark, Valerie’s husband).

Missing from the ensemble is the late Robert Michael Morris, who died in 2017, and played Valerie’s best friend and hair stylist, Mickey.

No other cast is listed, but the show’s 2014 iteration was loaded with guest stars, including Seth Rogen (as himself, playing Valerie’s former tormentor, Paulie G.) and Malin Åkerman, appearing as her character from Season 1.

Season 1 of ‘The Comeback’ introduced Kudrow’s character Valerie as a mid-range sitcom actor whose return (thus the name Comeback) to a (bad) network comedy called ‘Room and Board’ was being chronicled by a reality show called ‘The Comeback.’

Valerie is only ever seen through the reality show’s lens, which captured every moment of her humiliation — which were far too many count. The show, while retrospectively lauded and hailed as one of the best serials today, was rejected by critics due to its twistedly dark nature, showcasing so many of the bitter realities of the industry.
