Locals, BJP workers protest outside Trilokpuri councillor’s office demanding resignation over sanitation worker's suicide

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Following allegations regarding the role of Aam Aadmi Party councillor from Trilokpuri, Vijay Kumar, in connection with the alleged financial harassment of sanitation worker Deepak, that reportedly compelled him to take his own life, locals, along with BJP workers on Saturday staged a strong protest outside the municipal councillor’s office in Trilokpuri, demanding his resignation.
The protest was led by MLA Ravikant Ujjainwal, and coordinated by Municipal Councillor Priyanka Gautam, while the protestors have sought an impartial probe into the entire matter, justice for the victim’s family, and strict action under the law against those concerned if the allegations are found to be true during the investigation.
During the protest, an argument also arose between the protesters and the staff at the councillor’s office, while the demonstrators raised slogans demanding the resignation of Vijay Kumar.
The protesters have said that they would continue to raise their voice until justice is delivered to deceased sanitation worker Deepak’s family, and an impartial investigation into the entire matter is ensured.
Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Councillor Priyanka Gautam said that members of the sanitation worker community work day and night to keep the city clean, and no form of injustice against them can be tolerated.
She further stated that serious allegations that have emerged in the sanitation worker's suicide matter, and strict action must be ensured against those found responsible.
Gautam said that ensuring justice in this case is not merely a fight for one family, but a fight for the dignity and rights of all sanitation workers who contribute to strengthening Delhi’s sanitation system.
She added, "We demand that the Aam Aadmi Party and the concerned municipal councillor should not evade their responsibility and must take the necessary steps to ensure justice for Deepak’s family."
The sanitation worker's wife was also present at the protest and expressed hope that AAP leaders, whether Arvind Kejriwal, Saurabh Bharadwaj, or Kuldeep Kumar, would take action against their Councillor and help secure justice for her.
MLA Ravikant has alleged that serious questions are also being raised regarding the property where AAP Councillor has established his office, adding that there are reports of an illegal occupation of a property worth approximately Rs 5 crore for running the office, and this matter should also be impartially investigated.
He further said, “Those who claim to speak for the interests of Dalits and the sanitation worker community have a local representative who has allegedly committed injustice against a Dalit sanitation worker and taken advantage of his financial compulsion. If the allegations are found to be true in the investigation, accountability must be fixed for the concerned municipal councillor,” the legislator added.
