Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi to visit Karnataka today

Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi to visit Karnataka today

Hosapete (Karnataka), May 20 (UNI) Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress big gun Rahul Gandhi will attend the Samarpane Sankalpa Rally at the District Stadium in Hosapete on Tuesday, marking a 'significant milestone' in the state government's welfare initiatives.

At the event, Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate the distribution of home ownership title deeds to 1,11,111 beneficiaries, fulfilling a promise he made during a visit to Karnataka in 2015.

This flagship programme of the Congress government aims to provide legal recognition and security of tenure to nomadic, semi-nomadic, and rural farming communities residing on public or private lands previously unrecorded as revenue villages.

The event will also see the participation of AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and AICC General Secretary Randeep Sngh Surjewala, who will join the celebrations marking the completion of two years of the Congress government in Karnataka.

The programme covers approximately six lakh people across the state. Between 2017 and 2019, around 36,000 title deeds were issued, which rose to approximately 72,000 between 2019 and 2023, Minister Krishne Byregowda said.

Since the Congress government returned to power, over one lakh families have received home-ownership titles, with the government aiming to complete the issuance of the remaining 50,000 deeds within the next six months, he added.

Byregowda also emphasised the digitisation of the title documents to prevent loss, damage, or tampering of records. "The government is executing registered absolute title deeds for beneficiaries to ensure absolute ownership certainty," he said.

Addressing issues faced by beneficiaries in getting their property entries registered with local bodies, the minister added, "Of the 1.2 lakh titles issued between 2017 and 2023, only about 5,000 have obtained property Khata in gram panchayats. Our campaign now pushes all registered title documents digitally to the gram panchayat property registries, generating a digital Khata (E-Swathu) for every beneficiary by default."

The move is expected to significantly empower rural and nomadic communities by providing them with legal ownership rights, boosting their socio-economic status. UNI BDN SSP
