Chandigarh, Jun 22 (UNI) Counting of votes for Ludhiana West assembly constituency would begin
at 0800 hrs instead of 0700 hrs on Monday, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said on Sunday.
The CEO has written to Deputy Commissioner-cum-Electoral Officer Ludhiana in this regard.
Approximately 51.33 per cent voting was recorded for bypolls, held on June 19. A total of 14 contestants were in the ring, whereas the constituency comprised 1.74 lakh registered voters.
The bypolls, necessitated by the untimely demise of AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi in January this year,
saw a multi-cornered contest.
AAP had fielded Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora and the Congress relied on former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who had lost to Gogi in the 2022 assembly elections. BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal's candidates were Jeevan Gupta and Parupkar Singh Ghumman respectively.
