Punjab: Migrant couple fatally knocked down by car

Phagwara, June 22 (UNI) A farm labourer couple died after a speeding car hit them in Punjab's Kapurthala district, police said on Sunday.
As per the police report, the couple was struck by the speeding car in the village of Tarfhaji, near Sultanpur Lodhi on late Saturday evening. resulting in the immediate death of the wife and serious injuries to the husband.
They were returning home after doing paddy transplanting work in the field.
Eyewitnesses reported that the car, allegedly travelling at high speed, hit the couple as they were walking along the roadside. The woman died on the spot due to the impact, while the severely injured man was rushed to the civil hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi. He was later referred to Kapurthala Hospital for further treatment, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police are investigating the matter. The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. UNI GS XC SSP
