Maha: Bhujbal discharged from ACB case over Kalina library land deal

Mumbai, Sep 24 (UNI) A designated court hearing cases against MPs and MLAs has discharged Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) in a corruption case registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in 2015 over the Kalina library land deal.
Bhujbal was accused of receiving a kickback in the deal while serving as the PWD Minister.
With this order, Bhujbal has been discharged from all pending corruption cases registered by the ACB in connection with his tenure as PWD Minister from 2004 to 2014.
The case was registered against Bhujbal and six others, including then PWD officials Gajanan Sawant, Harish Patil, Anilkumar Gaikwad, Sanjay Solanki and MS Shah.
All the accused have now been discharged from the case. The detailed court order is yet to be made available.
According to the prosecution counsel, a prime plot at Kalina belonging to Mumbai University was given to the state government for construction of a library.
The ACB alleged that the PWD, under Bhujbal, invited tenders in 2009 to construct the library on part of the four-acre plot, while the remaining land was leased to a developer for 99 years at Re 1 per square metre.
The ACB had alleged that the lease was illegal and that Bhujbal and the officials overlooked the process. The investigation also alleged that some documents were forged during the approval process.
