Maha: BJP’s Mahajan brands Sanjay Raut ‘broker’

Mumbai, June 3 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan on Tuesday launched a fierce attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, labeling him a “broker” and a political adversary actively weakening Uddhav Thackeray’s party organisation.
Mahajan’s remarks came in response to Raut’s earlier criticism, in which he predicted that Mahajan would be among the first BJP leaders to abandon the party if it lost power.
“Uddhav Thackeray does not need any political enemy to destroy his party; Sanjay Raut alone is enough for that,” he told reporters.
The senior BJP MLA from north Maharashtra accused Raut and other “brokers” of driving away key leaders and grassroots workers from Shiv Sena (UBT).
Mahajan further alleged that Raut was instrumental in pushing Thackeray closer to Sharad Pawar and the Congress following the 2019 assembly elections, a move that caused significant damage to the party.
“If Thackeray fails to rein in Raut, the Shiv Sena (UBT) is destined to collapse,” he warned.
The Shiv Sena split in June 2022 after the departure of senior leader Eknath Shinde and several MLAs. Shinde, who subsequently became chief minister, retained the party’s name and symbol following a ruling by the Election Commission.
Responding to Raut’s claim that Mahajan might desert the BJP, the minister reaffirmed his loyalty, emphasising his long-standing commitment as a swayamsevak and seven-term MLA.
“Unlike Raut, I will never harm my party. I have been in the Opposition for 20 years and despite numerous offers to switch sides, I have remained steadfast,” Mahajan added.
The political spat highlights the ongoing tensions within Maharashtra’s complex party dynamics as the state approaches future elections.
