Maha: Court convicts 1993 Mumbai bomb blast accused Mansoor in fake passport case

Mumbai, May 4 (UNI) A court here has convicted 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts Mohammed Farooq Yasin Mansoor alias Farooq Takla, to five years in jail in a case where he forged a passport using someone else’s identity, a lawyer said here on Sunday.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R D Chavan in its order on Saturday said, ''Evidence on record that is oral and documentary evidence shows that accused Mohammed Farooq Yasin Mansoor alias Farooq Takla applied for the passport and renewal of passport by using the name Mustaq Mohammed Miya, which is not his real name. The passport application and passport contains false particulars, false information and forged signature. It shows that the accused by hiding his real identity and submitting false information obtained the passport and also got it renewed,”
Mansoor (66) has been behind bars since 2018 and the punishment will be considered undergone as he has already spent more than five years in jail as an undertrial.
Mansoor is facing trial for the 1993 serial blasts under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) Act after he was extradited from the UAE. He was declared an absconding accused in 1995 as he had remained untraceable after being named as a conspirator in the blasts.
