Maha: Fire in Bhiwandi's Khandupada, 14 two-wheelers gutted

Mumbai, Sep 16 (UNI) A major fire broke out at Umar Apartment in Khandupada area of neghbouring Bhiwandi city on Wednesday morning, gutting around 13 to 14 two-wheelers parked in the building premises with no injury reported, officials said.
The incident occurred near Safiya School, triggering panic among residents as the flames rapidly spread through the parking area and engulfed the vehicles. The two-wheelers were completely gutted in the blaze.
Prima facie, a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire, though the exact reason is yet to be established.
Residents alleged negligence in the electricity supply and reportedly engaged in a heated argument with personnel of Torrent Power, the local power distribution company, who reached the spot after the incident.
On receiving the information, a fire brigade team from the Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. The blaze was brought under control after sustained efforts, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.
Local corporator Mehboob Shaikh visited the site and took stock of the situation, while personnel from Shanti Nagar police station also reached the spot and began an investigation.
Residents have demanded strict action if any negligence by the power utility is established and sought compensation for the owners of the damaged vehicles.
No casualties have been reported so far. Police are investigating the incident, and the exact cause of the fire and extent of the damage will be ascertained after the inquiry.
