Baramati, May 25 (UNI) For the first time in last 40 years, heavy pre-monsoon rain pummelled many areas in the taluka since Saturday (last) night, disrupting normal life completely and submerging agricultural fields.
An average of 226.87 millimeters of total rainfall has been recorded in total eight mandals of the taluka since last night, tehsildar Ganesh Shinde said on Sunday and appealed people to take precautions.
Cloudburst-like rain fell in Someshwarnagar, Murum, Waghalwadi, Wanewadi, Karanj, Karanjepool, Nimbut, Khandobachiwadi, Gadarwadi, Sortewadi, Magarwadi, Someshwarmandir, Chaudharwadi, Sadobachiwadi, Sastewadi and Aathphata.
Due to copious rainfall, normal life in these areas has been completely disrupted and agriculture has also been underwater.
As a result, flood water has entered the houses in Sortewadi, Karchewadi, Pawarwasti, Kulkarniwasti, Shendkarwadi, Salobawasti, Karandemala areas, besides causing major damage to food grains and other items.
This has caused huge losses to both foodgrains and household items.
