Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) Police detained a man after three cartridges were discovered in a roadside gutter by local rag pickers in Mankhurd area of city, officials said here on Saturday.
Soon after the information was received, local police and officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch rushed to the spot on Friday evening, seized the ammunition and sent the cartridges for forensic analysis.
According to police, the cartridges were found to be expired and non-functional.
An officer stated that the cartridges were manufactured around 1995–96, and such ammunition typically has a shelf life of 10 years, after which it becomes unfit for use.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bullets may have originated from scrap material, possibly dumped in the gutter unintentionally.
Authorities are now probing how the ammunition ended up at the site, who it may have belonged to, and whether there are any broader security implications.
The Mankhurd police have registered the information and are continuing their inquiry.
