Maha: Poet Ramesh Redekar advocates for embracing, not imposition of Marathi language

Pune, Sep 27 (UNI) Noted Marathi poet Ramesh Redekar has raised his voice against imposition of Marathi language on non-native speakers and asked people to embrace the language with devotion, instead.
Addressing the Sarfojiraje II Marathi Poets' Conference at Pethanan Kalaiyarangam Hall in Thanjavur of Tamil Nadu as its president, he said
Marathi, being a rich mother tongue, and its regional dialects should be used in daily communication and education and suggested that people should embrace the language with devotion rather than being imposed upon them.
He observed that preserving Marathi in its classical form required a genuine attachment to the language, while emphasising that knowledge of major languages of the world was also essential in today's era.
"Poets in all languages should preserve poetry as an effective means of expression. Living poetry questions and challenges the system. There is a need today for poets and poetry that raise their voice against intolerance," Redekar said.
Chhatrapati Abajiraje Bhosale of the Thanjavur royal family attended the conference as the chief guest.
Poets Suryakant Namugade, Kishor Tilekar, Suvarna Waghmare and Sangeeta Langhe were also present, said a release here. UNI SP SS
