Two dead after suspected chemical leak in Mumbai public toilet

Mumbai, Sep 27 (UNI) Two persons died allegedly due to suffocation following a suspected chemical leak inside a public toilet in suburban Mumbai, officials said on Sunday.
The incident was reported around 0830 hours at a public toilet opposite Parsi Panchayat Gate, near Mrunaltai Bridge in the Ram Mandir (East) area, after a citizen alerted the authorities about the incident.
According to local residents, the two men had reportedly suffered breathing difficulties after being exposed to a strong chemical smell inside the toilet.
The victims were subsequently rushed to Trauma Care Hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors declared them brought dead at around 0349 hours.
The deceased were identified as Prabhakar Dhanivar, 24, and Bhavin Desai, 18.
Following the incident, multiple agencies, including the BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, 108 ambulance services, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) personnel and ward staff, were mobilised at the spot.
The exact nature and source of the suspected chemical leak were not immediately known. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and efforts are underway to ascertain what caused the suspected release of the chemical substance.
Further details, including the findings of the investigation and any official confirmation regarding the chemical involved, are awaited.
