Maha Raj Bhavan celebrates West Bengal State Foundation Day

Mumbai June 20 (UNI) Maharashtra Raj Bhavan on Friday celebrated the West Bengal State Foundation Day in the presence of Governor C P Radhakrishnan here.
The day was celebrated as part of the Government of India’s programme ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative according to a Raj Bhavan statement.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor paid rich tributes to the extraordinary contributions of West Bengal to India’s cultural, literary and political landscape.
Highlighting the state’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle, the Governor recalled how Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Punjab complemented each other in nurturing revolutionary ideas.
He remembered iconic freedom fighters Lal- Bal - Pal and visionaries such as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Rabindranath Tagore, and Surendranath Banerjee, whose contributions continue to inspire generations.

He also paid homage to distinguished political leaders from Bengal like Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Pranab Mukherjee, Jyoti Basu, Hiren Mukherjee and Somnath Chatterjee.

The Governor praised the Bengali community in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai, which proudly hosts hundreds of Durga Puja celebrations, with some mandals tracing their origins back nearly a century.

As the nation works towards building a prosperous and harmonious Viksit Bharat, the Governor reaffirmed Maharashtra Raj Bhavan’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties of friendship between the two states.

Students and artists of the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University presented a cultural programme comprising folk songs and dance depicting the cultural traditions of West Bengal on the occasion.
The students presented the folk song 'Elo Durga Maa' , a monologue on West Bengal through the eyes of Rabindranath Tagore, Raibenshe folk dance and Jhumar folk dance. UNI AAA SSP

Mumbai police constable body found on skywalk near railway station
