Maha: Shashikant Shinde backs Sunil Tatkare's explosive claim on pre-planned NCP merger

Mumbai, Nov 6 (UNI) In a dramatic turn of events that has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra's political spectrum, leaders from opposing factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have confirmed that a full-scale merger of both camps was actively planned for February 12, prior to the tragic passing of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Endorsing the sensational revelations made by NCP (AP) State President Sunil Tatkare, Shashikant Shinde—State President of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction—stated that Tatkare had merely stated the unvarnished reality.
Speaking to media persons here, Shinde affirmed, "Sunil Tatkare has spoken the absolute truth. We had previously highlighted this exact fact—that negotiations regarding the reunification of both factions were underway and a timeline was set while Ajit Dada was alive."
Shinde revealed that party founder Sharad Pawar and the late Ajit Pawar held a shared determination to reunite the divided cadre and rebuild the party's core structure.
Tatkare had earlier disclosed that Ajit Pawar had taken him into complete confidence regarding the specific modalities and execution of the merger. Both leaderships acknowledged that the proposed integration came to an abrupt halt solely due to Ajit Pawar's unexpected passing in an aviation accident.
Shinde pointed out that a unified NCP would have fundamentally altered the electoral dynamic across Maharashtra’s local body elections.
With top leaders from both factions publicly corroborating the secret negotiations, speculation has mounted over whether the two sides will reignite steps toward a historic merger or continue navigating independent political paths. UNI NEP NST
