Maha: Solapur-Mumbai, Amravati-Pune air routes selected under modified UDAN Scheme

Pune, Oct 15 (UNI) The Solapur-Mumbai and Amravati-Pune air routes have been selected for Maharashtra under the Centre's modified UDAN scheme to strengthen regional air connectivity, union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said today.
The proposed services will connect Solapur and Amravati with major economic, industrial and educational centres in the state. The initiative is expected to benefit students, entrepreneurs, traders, tourists and other passengers, Mohol said.
Under the revised scheme, states can propose four air routes and two airports through a challenge-based selection process, taking into account passenger demand and regional connectivity requirements.
Solapur, known for its textile industry, trade, religious tourism and agro-based industries, is expected to benefit from direct connectivity with Mumbai. Similarly, the proposed Amravati-Pune service is expected to improve access to Pune's educational institutions, IT sector, industries and employment opportunities for residents of the Vidarbha region.
Mohol said the expansion of regional air connectivity would help reduce travel time, facilitate trade, promote tourism and create new opportunities for education and employment.
The initiative is part of the Centre's efforts to extend air connectivity beyond major metropolitan cities and make air travel more accessible to people in smaller cities, he added. UNI SP SS
