Maha: SRPF jawan deployed in anti-Naxal operations dies of snakebite in Gadchiroli

Gadchiroli, Oct 7 (UNI) A SRPF jawan from Dhule, who was deployed in anti-Naxal operations in Gadchiroli district, died after being bitten by a venomous snake on Tuesday, police officials said on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rahul Prabhakar Shingare (37), a police naik attached to the 'F' Company of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Group No. 6 based in Dhule.
He was posted in the Regadi area under Chamorshi tehsil as part of anti-Naxal security operations.
According to officials, the SRPF company had been deployed in Gadchiroli around one-and-a-half months ago.
Shingare was staying at the Regadi police assistance centre, where accommodation had been arranged for security personnel.
He was bitten by a poisonous snake on his hand while taking a bath at a water tank inside the camp at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
Following the incident, fellow personnel rushed him to the Chamorshi Rural Hospital for primary treatment.
He was later shifted to the District General Hospital in Gadchiroli for advanced medical care.
Despite efforts by doctors, Shingare succumbed during treatment at around 2.30 p.m.
Described by colleagues as a brave and dedicated policeman, Shingare's death has cast a pall of gloom over the police force.
A ceremonial tribute was paid to him at the police parade ground in Gadchiroli in the evening, where he was accorded full state honours, including a three-round gun salute.
Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh, SRPF officers and police personnel were present on the occasion.
