Maha: Tiger kills Anganwadi worker in Chandrapur, 2nd fatal attack in 24 hrs

Chandrapur, Oct 26 (UNI) A 56-year-old Anganwadi worker was killed in a tiger attack while harvesting cotton in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, marking the second such fatal incident in the Sindewahi area within 24 hours, officials said on Monday.
The victim, Premila Pundlik Mahadore, was working in a cotton field at Bhendala village with her husband, Pundlik Vithobaji Mahadore (60), on her weekly holiday on October 25 (Sunday).
Around 1 pm, her husband went to a motor pump near a well, leaving Premila harvesting cotton at some distance. A tiger lurking in the crop suddenly attacked her and killed her.
When she failed to respond to his calls, Pundlik returned to look for her and found her lying dead in a pool of blood.
He raised an alarm, following which villagers and forest officials reached the spot.
A 'panchnama' was conducted, and the body was sent to Sindewahi Rural Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The second incident came a day after Nanaji Narayan Kamdi (55) was killed in a tiger attack while picking cotton at Palasgaon (Jat) on Saturday.
The consecutive deaths have heightened fear among farmers and agricultural labourers, who are reluctant to enter their fields during the ongoing cotton harvesting season.
Residents have urged the Forest department to intensify surveillance, capture the tiger at the earliest and provide financial assistance to the bereaved family.
