Maha: Two teenage boys drown during Gauri immersion in Nagpur district

Nagpur, Sep 16 (UNI) Two 13-year-old boys drowned in a pond while participating in Gauri immersion festivities in a village in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Ayush Harish Kumre, a Class VIII student and Darshan Dhanraj Lad, a Class VII student.
Both were residents of Zilpa village of Katol taluka and were associated with Jai Bhavani Krida Mandal as kabaddi players.
Police said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday when women from the village had gone to a pond in the adjoining fields for Gauri immersion. Several children had also entered the water during the ceremony.
Ayush and Darshan reportedly ventured into deeper water and drowned.
When the women noticed that the boys were missing, they raised an alarm, prompting villagers and relatives to rush to the spot.
The boys' uncles entered the pond and searched for them. Both were later pulled out and taken to Katol Rural Hospital, where doctors declared them dead after examination.
The deaths of the two young sportspersons have plunged their families and the entire village into mourning.
Their demise has also saddened fellow kabaddi players and members of the local sports community.
Katol police conducted a panchnama and registered an accidental death case.
