Mahagenco achieves record power generation for five consecutive months

Mumbai, Nov 2 (UNI) Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) has recorded its highest-ever monthly power generation for five consecutive months from June to October 2026, with overall electricity production touching an all-time high of 5,817 million units in October.
The record generation comes amid low rainfall across Maharashtra and rising temperatures, which have increased electricity demand in the state.
According to the company, thermal power generation stood at 4,850 million units in June, while total generation across its power plants was 5,159 million units. In July, thermal generation was 4,436 million units and overall production stood at 4,858 million units.
In August, thermal power generation reached 4,656 million units, taking total generation to 5,209 million units. The corresponding figures for September were 4,615 million units and 5,279 million units, respectively.
In October, Mahagenco's thermal power generation rose to 5,159 million units, while total electricity production reached a record 5,817 million units. The previous highest monthly generation for October was 5,342 million units, recorded in 2023.
The company attributed the achievement to coordinated efforts across its thermal, hydro, gas and solar power plants, along with improved operational efficiency, strategic planning and the efforts of its officers, engineers, technicians and other employees.
Mahagenco has also put in place additional measures to meet rising electricity demand during the festive season and in the coming months. Under the guidance of Chairman and Managing Director Radhakrishnan B and the leadership of Director (Operations) Abhay Harne, a special task force of experts has been constituted to strengthen operational preparedness.
The company said renewable energy generation had also contributed to the overall performance, with several new renewable energy projects being taken up for commissioning.
Radhakrishnan B, along with directors Abhay Harne, Manesh Waghikar, Rajesh Patil and Vijay Rathod, congratulated the officers, engineers, workers and employees for achieving the milestone.
Mahagenco said the record generation was particularly significant in view of the drought-like conditions prevailing in parts of Maharashtra and the increased demand for electricity.UNI AAB
