Maharashtra Cabinet forms sub-committee to oversee relief measures and tackle drought-like situation

Mumbai, Sep 22 ( UNI) The Maharashtra government on Tuesday decided to constitute a Cabinet sub-committee to oversee drought-relief measures amid a drought-like situation and a prolonged spell of deficient rainfall in several parts of the state.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule will head the sub-committee, which has been given powers to take decisions on measures required from time to time to address the situation.
A preliminary notification regarding the sub-committee is expected to be issued by Saturday. Ministers and legislators will also visit affected areas and interact with farmers to assess the ground situation and expedite the delivery of relief measures, officials said.
The Cabinet took a total of five major decisions at Tuesday's meeting.
Under the Relief and Rehabilitation Department, the government approved the formation of the drought-relief sub-committee and decided to accelerate measures to ensure assistance reaches affected farmers.
The Cabinet also approved the allotment of developed plots on an ownership basis to project-affected farmers from Moghrapada, whose land was acquired for the integrated car shed depot for Mumbai Metro corridors 4, 4A and 10. Farmers from Survey No. 30 at Moghrapada will be eligible for developed plots at 22.5 per cent and 12.5 per cent rates, as applicable.
Another decision cleared the group redevelopment of old and dilapidated Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) buildings in Ramkrishnanagar in Khar (West), Mumbai. The redevelopment is aimed at providing better infrastructure and improved living conditions to residents.
The Cabinet also approved the cancellation of reservations for a playground and garden on Survey No. 103 at Devpur in Dhule taluka, within the Dhule Municipal Corporation limits, under the city's sanctioned development plan. The land will instead be included in the public-semi-public category.
In another decision concerning the Agriculture Department, the revised staffing structure was cancelled and the structure approved in 2009 will remain temporarily in force.
The government will undertake a comprehensive review of the Agriculture Department's workload, available manpower, vacant posts, requirements of various cadres, field-level machinery, workload related to farmer-centric schemes and future administrative requirements before submitting a fresh proposal for the revised staffing structure.
