Main accused in Panchkula nightclub firing held; Zigana pistol, eight cartridges recovered

Panchkula, Sep 17 (UNI) Haryana Police has arrested the alleged main accused in the Alif Laila Night Club firing case from Kharar in Punjab and recovered a Zigana pistol, eight live cartridges and an XUV 500 allegedly used in the crime, a spokesperson said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Kaku of Ferozepur district in Punjab, was arrested by Panchkula Police Crime Branch-2, headed by Inspector Parveen Malik.
Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain said Gurpreet was allegedly the person who opened fire inside the Sector-11 nightclub. He was produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody for six days.
Police recovered the Zigana pistol allegedly used in the firing, eight live cartridges and the XUV 500 vehicle used to flee after the incident, the spokesperson said. Police are questioning the accused to trace the source and supply chain of the illegal weapon and his network, Nain said.
DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh said three other accused — Lakhbir Singh alias Lucky, Gurpreet and Karanjit Singh, all residents of Ferozepur — had already been arrested and taken on six-day police remand. With the latest arrest, four accused have been arrested in the case, and questioning is continuing.
Police said they received information about firing at the Alif Laila Night Club in Sector 11 on September 13, following which teams reached the spot and launched an investigation.
A case was subsequently registered at Sector-5 Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway, the spokesperson said. UNI KK CDS
