Major fire engulfs 4-storey building at Delhi’s Gaffar Market

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) A major fire broke out at a four-storeyed building located in Delhi’s famous Gaffar Market, Karol Bagh, during the intervening night on Thursday- Friday.
No loss of life or reports of any individual getting injured have surfaced so far, though locals say that goods stored in the shops have suffered damage.
A PCR call regarding a fire in a building at the Chain Wali Gali was received at around 1:28 am, and the emergency services rushed to the spot.
The night staff of Karol Bagh Police Station, along with the Station House Officer, immediately reached the spot, where it was found that the building where the incident took place had shops dealing in mobile accessories.
As per the initial inquiry, it is said that the fire originated from a shop located on the ground level, which had mobile batteries stored in it.
Due to the intensity of the blaze, it is said that over 20 fire tenders had to be pressed into service, while ambulances and PCR vans were also pushed into service.
Prima facie, it is being said that the mobile batteries could be the reason behind the blaze; however, the real reason will only be ascertained after the main inquiry report comes out.
The officials concerned will conduct the probe into the matter to zero in on the exact cause, and the Forensic Science Laboratory shall also examine the site.
The fire department had extinguished the blaze, while the cool-down was underway till the last update received during the evening.
Reacting swiftly to the incident, Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra asked BJP MP's Praveen Khandelwal and Yogendra Chandolia, who immediately reached the site and supervised relief work.
They also put in efforts to assess the kind of damage and total loss that took place due to the incident.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also sought detailed information about the incident and the situation affecting the nearby area and shops.
As soon as the cool down of the fire takes place, the agencies concerned will help vacate the adjoining shops, and the damaged building.
