Man held by Odisha Cyber Crime unit for circulating morphed & objectionable video of CM

Bhubaneswar, June 18 (UNI) The Cyber Crime Unit of the Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday apprehended one Kishore Kausalya of Keutaguda Station Sahi, under the jurisdiction of Chandili police station in Rayagada district, for circulating a morphed and objectionable video on Facebook targeting Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
According to sources in the Crime Branch, a complaint was lodged by a citizen regarding an obscene and objectionable video being circulated on Facebook. The video allegedly depicted the Chief Minister in an indecent manner. The complainant stated that the video was morphed and made viral with the deliberate intention of defaming the Chief Minister and tarnishing his public image. The content also allegedly compromised the dignity of a woman.
The Cyber Crime Unit promptly initiated an inquiry into the matter. Based on the findings, an FIR was registered and a formal investigation launched.
Meta Platforms (Facebook) was approached to remove the objectionable content, and the platform complied with the request.
Further investigation led to the identification of the user behind the Facebook account, who was found to be a resident of Rayagada district.
A Crime Branch team was immediately dispatched to Rayagada, where the accused, Kishore Kausalya—an employee of a construction company in Tikri—was apprehended.
Kausalya is alleged to have committed multiple criminal offenses by publishing and transmitting an AI-generated, morphed obscene video.
He was arrested on Wednesday and produced before the Court of the SDJM, Bhubaneswar, under Sections 78, 79, 294, 296, 336(2), 336(4), 340(2), and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 66-C, 67, and 67-A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Section 3 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
The Crime Branch has stated that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in such illegal activities and has urged citizens to exercise caution when posting or sharing content on social media.
